How To Stay Healthy Right Now, According to Experts
As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic unfolds, prioritizing your health and strengthening your immune system is of utmost importance. That's why we reached out to our expert advisory board and asked for their top tips for staying healthy. Here's what they said:
1. Boost your immune system
HALO is a great option to stay hydrated and boost immunity over the coming weeks. According to Dr. Jonathan Menachem, esteemed cardiologist at Vanderbilt University and member of the HALO Advisory Board, “Pedialyte helps replenish electrolytes; however, it does so with a significant amount of sugar. HALO can effectively help improve the symptoms of dehydration without the extra sugar. I often give it to patients as it is full of electrolytes, natural magnesium, and it tastes good so patients guzzle it down for rehydration.”
2. Stay hydrated
One of the best ways you can care for yourself at home as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is to stay hydrated. According to Keri Glassman, MS, RD, CDN: “Staying hydrated is critical for overall health especially when trying to keep the immune system boosted. Being properly hydrated will help you flush out waste from your body, regulate body temperature, aid in digestion and increase nutrient absorption. Electrolytes are important because they balance the water in your body. In other words, they keep water in the right places in your body and help move nutrients into cells and waste out.”
3. Take magnesium
Not only is HALO proven to hydrate more efficiently than water, but it's the only electrolyte drink that contains over 70 mg of natural magnesium, a powerful immune booster. “Magnesium is a mineral that helps support the immune system and aids in the production of energy. It's a biologically essential ion that is involved in over 300 chemical reactions in the human body," explains Dr. Whitney Bowe, MD, Board Certified Dermatologist.
"We all know how critical vitamin C is for immune health, but the role of magnesium is often overlooked. For my patients who want a robust immune system, I talk to them about making sure they're getting enough magnesium in their diet."
